Synopsis
Our client, a Singapore-based wealth management company, had established an entity in the United States to provide their existing international business clients with direct market access to US - listed securities; to commence business operations, they needed to transfer certain key personnel to the United States. Over the course of last year, we assisted them in obtaining L1 and E-2 visas for four of their employees.
Just recently, another employee's E-2 visa application was approved by the US consulate, and he will be assuming the role of a Risk Manager at the US subsidiary.
In addition to the E-2 visa available to investors, it can also be availed of by eligible employees. The E-2 Employee visa allows an eligible individual to work in the treaty investor’s business in either an executive, supervisory, or in an "essential capacity" role in the United States.
An E-2 visa employee can be accompanied by their spouse or unmarried children under the age of 21 under the derivative visa which grants the spouse a right to lawfully work in the US. The visa is usually based on a reciprocity schedule with the treaty country.
