Case Studies: E2 Treaty Investor - Rug & Carpet Retail and Wholesale
Industry: | Rug & Carpet Retail and Wholesale |
Visa Type: | E2 Treaty Investor |
Country: | Italy |
Synopsis
Our client is involved in a family-run rug business in Milan. He sought to start his own rug and carpet retail and wholesale enterprise in the New York City area. His family, a wife and three school-aged children would accompany him. The case involved a Consular filing in Rome.
Highlights & Challenges
As is common with individuals starting a new US venture, our client was very anxious about launching his business and filing the application in time to permit for relocation by a certain deadline. A NYC-based family member of our client supported the process, was involved in numerous conference calls and served as a local agent for our client to initiate his early-stage operations.
One area of difficulty for this case was the client’s selection of outside counsel for his Escrow account. As is critical for E2 filings, D&A advises all of our clients to establish a US Escrow Trust account. For virtually all of our E2 clients, D&A serves as the legal agent for this instrumental bank account. Unfortunately, this appointed attorney was totally unfamiliar with immigration practice and resistant to providing key banking statements such as the client’s IOLA account statement. In addition, his chosen bank was utterly incompetent and made egregious errors such as misprinting account numbers, and misspelling the client’s name. Such accurate reporting is necessary for a successful E2 petition.
Our client was fluent in Italian, and lacked proficiency in the English language. However, D&A handled documents in both Italian and English, as the US Embassy in Rome accepts submissions in either language. Lastly, trimming the submission to fit within Rome’s submission size restrictions presented considerable difficulty, as our immigration attorneys are forced to select only the critical documents to meet such requirements.

Grenada CBI + E2 Visa ClientThe entire process of getting an EB5 visa is handled in a professional way by Mark Davies and his team. EB5 is a wonderful option for anyone considering moving to the United States if you have the means. I was hoping to use the H1B route for my children, but it became unreliable and so I looked to the EB5 Visa instead. It is great for anyone who has the resources. Mark gives you the first meetings himself which gives you great comfort. Both Mark and Sanjay are abundantly available and I even had the pleasure of hosting them at my house.
Parent of 2 EB5 Visa HoldersI'm in a process of extending my L1 visa. I submitted a few questions regarding my case and he contacted me back almost immediately both by e-mail and telephone. Unlike other attorneys I met before, he gave me the impression of knowing from the top of his head what kind of visa I have, and what actions had to be taken to extend it. He is very thorough and clear regarding the process and what to expect in terms of timelines and issues that may arise. He is constantly in contact, so you definitely know he's working on your case.
